Generated Memories
Artist Statement
Generated Memories draws on my past decade of living in Hong Kong. It explores my personal narratives as they intersect with the collective memory of the people who inhabit the city and the ongoing erasure of the city itself. Through this work, I have come to see these constant demolitions and dismantling not as isolated events, but as a recurring force shaping a city whose identity is perpetually under construction.
I use LiDAR, 3D Gaussian Splatting, and volumetric capture to reconstruct spaces and environments tied to my own memory, preserving not only the physical space, but also the subjective experience of a city in constant transition. This process carries my exact perspective: the texture, the atmosphere, and the particular quality of a space as I experienced it.
In this work, memory is experienced as unstable, fluid, and embodied. It opens a space for dialogue where people can contemplate what is quietly lost and what might yet be reclaimed.
